When I started my entrepreneurial journey back in Year 2011, I also came to realization that in order to become a successful entrepreneur, it is important to have personal growth. As my mentor says, ’Your business can only grow to the extent that you do.’
So in the last few years, I have devoted a significant amount of time and effort to learning from successful people – through attending seminars and trainings, networking, listening to audio programs, watching training videos as well as reading books.
Many people who have been following me on Facebook or know me in person would probably know that I LOVE reading, and I always have a book or two with me when I travel. (Yes, I LOVE traveling! Check out my adventures here!) In fact, in the last few years, I have read more than 250+ personal development books and many of them have helped me tremendously.
So here it is… The Top 9 Personal Development Books that have made an impact in my life. And I hope you will enjoy these books as much as I have enjoyed them. Cheers!
1) Start Something That Matters – by Blake Mycoskie
I came across this book by accident. There was one time I was on a long flight, and as I randomly browsed through the video archives on the plane, something caught my eyes. There was an audiobook called ’Start Something That Matters’. It was about how Blake Mycoskie started TOMS, a shoe company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a new pair given to a child in need. One for one. Today, TOMS is a successful global company and has been giving out millions of pairs of shoes to children in need. A business that is built on the foundation of making a change in this World – Fascinating and heartwarming! Since then, I have bought this book and read it several times. It has made a huge impact on me, and that’s why when I wrote my own book ’Mind and Money Makeover’, I have made it a point to donate 50% of all the net proceeds from my book to charities that support children in need – there is no better business than one that gives back!
2) Rich Dad’s Cashflow Quadrant (Rich Dad’s Guide to Financial Freedom) – by Robert Kiyosaki
This book was THE game-changer in my own journey to financial freedom. Prior to starting my own business in Year 2011, I was a time-broke corporate employee, trapped in the rat race, stressed out and exhausted (read my story here). Because of this enlightening international best-selling book, I came to realization of where I was in my life and that I needed to make a change – it was from then I made the decision to pursue time and money freedom through building my own business. And it has made all the difference in my World. Within just 26 months of reading this book, I have become financially free. And today, I have both time and money freedom and get to do what I want, with whom I want, when I want and at where I want. I totally LOVE my new life! So, if you haven’t already read this book, I highly recommend it!
3) Secrets of the Millionaire Mind (Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth) – by T. Harv Eker
In this international best-selling book, T. Harv Eker helps us identify our own money blueprint and teaches us how to create massive financial success. Our outer world reflects our inner world. So in order to change our outer world, we need to first work on our inner selves. This book helps to shatter our limiting money beliefs and ’re-program’ new positive and empowering ones into our minds. Powerful stuff! It has helped my transformation and I hope it will have the same impact on you too! Get ready for your new journey within and start a healthy and abundant relationship with wealth!
4) Start with Why (How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Actions) – by Simon Sinek
I first learned about Simon Sinek from his famous TED talk, it is one of the most viewed TED videos of all times. In this enlightening book, Simon outlines how great leaders inspire everyone to take actions – they start with their WHY. From Martin Luther King, Jr. to Steve Jobs to the Wright Brothers, ’Start with Why’ shows that the leaders who inspire all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way – and it is completely opposite of what everyone else does. If you want to become a better leader or a better communicator, this is a golden book not to be missed!
5) The 4-Hour Work Week (Escape the 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich) – by Timothy Ferriss
This book is kind of CRAZY. Ok, I must admit that the title of this book was what caught my eyes first. 4-Hour Work Week? Seriously. Who in the right mind would believe this stuff?! But after reading this book, I found it ’intriguing’! (Warning – you may want to quit your job immediately after reading this book!) Although you may not be able to apply everything in this book right away (as some of the stuff in there is quite drastic), I’m sure you can take away a point or two to significantly improve the quality of your life. It is a fun and entertaining book to read!
6) Life Lessons from the Monk Who Sold his Ferrari – by Robin Sharma
May be you have already heard of Robin Sharma’s bestselling book ’The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’… For some reason, I personally am more fascinated by his follow-up book ’Life Lessons from the Monk Who Sold his Ferrari’. This book is an easy read, it is more like a guide, but yet so full of wisdom and amazing life lessons. I have read it many times and my book has highlights and underlines all over! Whenever I needed a little inspiration or pick-me-up, I would go back to this book, browse through a few pages and would instantly feel re-energized. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!
7) Live the Dream (No More Excuses) – By Larry Winters
In this book, Larry Winters told his own story on how he transformed from broke and struggling to complete financial and time freedom through his business. It is honest and yet inspiring. As you read through this story, I am sure you will too feel the emotional ups and downs, the struggles and triumphs of being an entrepreneur (I have gone through similar process myself while building my international business so I can totally relate! Of course, read more about my story, journey and lessons in my book ’Mind and Money Makeover’ too!). I hope this book will inspire you to take the leap, become an entrepreneur and live your dreams as well!
8) Rich Dad Poor Dad (What the Rich Teach their Kids about Money – that the Poor and the Middle Class do not!) – by Robert Kiyosaki
My book list would not be complete without this book! This international # 1 personal finance book in the World has definitely made an impact not only in my life but in the lives of millions around the World. Through simple story-telling, it is an easy read but yet it challenges conventional thinking about money, education and freedom in many ways. Absolutely highly recommended!
Yes, this book is written by me! You may say I am a little biased, but honestly I am super proud of this book!
